I always pass by their huge
I always pass by their huge building. Anyone knows what their nightly themes are? The Orient management should at least post their themes here, for non-Chinese speaking folks. How can a non-Chinese speaker call to check what the theme is, for any given night?
Entrace for most nights is a
Entrace for most nights is a rip off.
Supreme attitude at the door.
All you can drink nights have a drop of liquor per gallon of juice.
Loose your cup and you get no more drinks.
I barley go anymore, only when I'm feeling lucky,
I go to hook up with the chicks of course.
That's all it's good for, eye candy and hanging with friends downstairs at the High Life.
In the begining they were semi-down to earth.
Now they're the biggest thing in town so, BOOM. Take it or leave it.
Place is decent, i usually
Place is decent, i usually avoid the 200 dollar cover, ( with two beer included with that price ) only to buy a beer inside for 150 and realize I missed out on the deal at the door. but as mentioned in the previous texts, yes Hi-Life downstairs is wicked fun for $30+ a brew.
Be smart! Before you pay 200, or the 450 cover for all you can drink, ask to look inside. If they say no. Think twice. If they say yes. Check it out.
As it stands, it is still really the only place that is almost decent. Good luck, and if you are new in town, stay away from the far right ( section near the DJ ) girls like to dance and flirt, but only because their gangster or wannabe gangster is next to them.
AL
I know one of the owners and
I know one of the owners and he is a nice guy. I sent him a link to your comment so maybe you'll see a change. No promises though. It seems that at most of the hip clubs in Taiwan bad attitude and poor service from staff are normal.
Who? Adda? He doesn't give a
Who? Adda?
He doesn't give a Sh8T if foreigners get attitude at the door or bar.
That's the way he wants it anyway. He even had a foreign bouncer one time, some ex US military Latin dude, and he was stopped at the door and asked to pay to get in. His own bouncer! If management wanted this sh*t to stop, they would of done it years ago.
Some English dude paid for a beer with a thou bill and got $350 back. The dude got pissed and they didn't return his proper change.
He sees us standing at the bar when his waiters (carrying boxes of bottles) push you out the way, and spilling your drink all over without saying, "excuse me" or anything before they plunge you to the side, and he doesn't say crap to them. They even look at you like you're crazy after they spilled your drink for getting angry at them.
That has happened for years and nothing has changed.
He's only polite to the baseball players and the muscle men because they have face to offer. Everyone else is up shit creek without a paddle. Foreigners used to never pay to get in (thanks to John (Jazz)) except for All you can drink nights and holiday parties, for they wanted the international rep. going on for face. NOW, only foreigner nights are free, because they have the fame they were looking for. Used and now abused.
Their best DJ's were DJ Andy, and DJ Cliff. But now they're gone. Dr. K WAS a "down to Earth guy", but now he's the ONLY veteran DJ and has more attitude than 50 cent!
The best thing to do is hang outside and wait for the hotties to walk in and out, pay them your respects by hitting on them while you sip a nice, cold, cheap beer from the High Life. If you get lucky, then go inside. At least you got a hotty to take your mind off the bull.
Save yourself the $, dignity, and head aches. Go only on Foreigner nights, or on 2 beer for $200 nights, or with a chick you just picked up.
Every club and pub strives to have the same clientele he's got. The owner is not going to give a hoot about any of your complaints. He's living the Pimp Rap video life.
But if you don't mind all that, heck, go on in and have a blast.
Loved that post....have not
Loved that post....have not beefs with anyone, but reading about that old bouncer?? Heard the fact that the old Latino bouncer from the orient was one of the two dudes that cracked that dude at that "heritage" / high bar. Who beats a guy who is already unconscious? I thought enough was said until i heard he beat him til he couldn't move.
Beating a brother until one breaks their own fist on a dudes head is never good sign.
End of discussion....Orient good, that new bar = bad
Orient mixes music well
Orient mixes music well though.
LMAO Orient DJs do not
LMAO Orient DJs do not mix music well! The DJs fucking play mash-ups and other DJ's mixed CDs and pretend they are mixing. One night when I was in there, the DJ was playing another DJ's demo, (which the real DJ had given me months earlier,) and was pretending to mix the tracks. He was putting on a good show of it though- throwing up his hands as he faked locking in a mix or dropping in a good bass line. The crowd was none the wiser, but it was truly pathetic.
For those of you that don't know, a mash up is a piece of vinyl or MP3 that consists of several popular songs, pre-mixed together by a real DJ in the studio. So if you are paying a high cover price for "music talent." You are getting ripped off- as any one of you could drop a mash-up and pretend to mix.
I have only been in there twice and thought it was a joke.
Dr K is the only mixer. All
Dr K is the only mixer.
All the young wanna be's suck ass and always will.
Good observation, though.
My hat's off to you.
It really takes away from
It really takes away from the art of DJing. I normally think most DJ's are non distinct. Anyone with a finger or a nose can press play on a CD. I have seen some though that have done wonders with songs and had the crowd at a frenzy for hours. They are rare.
Yup, Dj Andy and Dj
Yup,
Dj Andy and Dj Cliff.
Both gone now.
Miss them like a mother.
Taiwan has some really
Taiwan has some really good DJs but they are rarely the ones playing the clubs. Most of the guys you see playing out here are playing for under $200 NT/hr. The DJs that really put on a show and end up spinning the best nights of the year rarely get booked because they want to be paid what they should. I have paid $5000USD for DJs plus flights and hotel for parties and they worth every penny. That is of course more than a local DJ would probably make in a year.
But to a club owner, if they are given the choice between a poser that will spin another DJ's CDs for $200NT or a talented local for $3000NT- they will always choose the cheaper option. Which ends up eventually killing the scene.
Taiwan has tons of other crazy shit for DJs to deal with too.
Hands down the best DJ in Tainan isn't even allowed to play in the city or gangsters will hurt his family. All because he had the nerve to quit one club he was at.
Wow, seems like the same
Wow, seems like the same scene at most dance clubs (worldwide). Yup, hotties, gangsters, poor service, getting cheated on proper change, and the ever common violent memory of some guy bloodied and still continually being beaten. But, you know what? I've been there. Well, not the unconscious, bloodied one, but you ever hold on to your drink gone warm, defer for the gang-types so you don't brush on them, pay exact cash (no credit card) so you don't get ripped-off, you mellow-out,yet still very aware, and bam!, there she is. A cute, hot girlie thinking (telepathically), "what're we both doing here?"
You wake up, hungover, walk to the convenience store and there she is, restocking the Gatorade. "...Hi....." / ".....hello..?" There are truly good people in Taiwan.
