after you voted you may

after you voted you may suggest a band that is cool!

I will refrain from voting,

I will refrain from voting, but can say - I like good music - which tends to span many different genres and never fit into one particular genre! But here's a small taste of what I think is 'good music'...I could go on...

pop/rock - Of Montreal/Belle & Sebastian/The Flaming Lips/Clap Your Hands Say Yeah/The Shins(liked it better when they weren't so famous)/The Arcade Fire/The Decemberists/Spoon
reggae - Marcus Garvey/The Chantelles/Studio One(anything put out is S1 generally rocks/Lee Scratch Perry/Inner Circle
hip hop - Roots/Erica Badu/MIA
folk - Iron and Wine

Others
Sigur Ros...
Radiohead who are of course in a genre of their own...

I hope you check some of it out and enjoy. I suggest listening to a complete album three-four times at least (and not as background music) to get a feel and understanding for it.

Too bad we can't choose more

Too bad we can't choose more than one. Really depends on your mood, innit?

And by "classic", do you mean "classical"?

yes I thought of classical,

yes I thought of classical, yes the voting sucks,...
just for fun, easy, easy,...

another problem I had

another problem I had putting up this for vote, when I was young there was rock music and now there are all these drawers, sub drawers and boxes, people categorize music, the list would have gone into infinity and back.

U-bahn, your comment

U-bahn, your comment reminded me of this crazy poll on the old bulletin. I thought he was taking the piss. Little did this old geezer know that the music categories he was enumerating were actually distinct. Ha, ha.

I was the one that wrote

I was the one that wrote that "crazy" poll on the old bulletin that Robert was referring to. It was catering more to the clubber audience, who we were trying to fill our venues with. Most of whom (we hoped) would know the difference between styles. Which are quite huge in many ways. Saying techno is the same as house would be like saying jazz is the same as hip-hop.

Not important though. Just commenting.

All the music in that poll

All the music in that poll does all fall under the "Dance Music" category though, as that is its purpose.

I talked to Neotribe about

I talked to Neotribe about his "crazy" poll and was surprised at how distinct the genres were.

Rhinobox, why don't we just lump all that under "the devil's music" and get it over with. Ha, ha.

  Dance Music could be

Dance Music could be pop, hip hop, R&B or even rock though.
If you go to most clubs, dance music is considered "hip hop." Despite the fact that half of it isn't hip hop whatsoever. Ex. Gwen Stefani is not hip- hop.

The reason for that original poll was that many of my friends that really like styles like breaks, despise house or trance. I wanted to create a night that would satisfy the most people as possible. Thus, the poll.

Let me illustrate ... listen to the difference between these four different house styles. Hear the difference? For people really into these styles, the difference is huge. Play the wrong style at certain clubs and the floor will clear instantly.

Hard House (Warning- Might make you sterile)

Progressive House

Funky House

House

Personally, I like something from just about every genre and style of music out there. Music only really needs two categories. Good and Not Good.

Great stuff there. Sure

Great stuff there. Sure helps to get some samples to go on.

I liked the lazier feel of the progressive house and house but I guess it depends on your mood and atmosphere. Like you said, Neo, there's good and bad music. You chose some good ones.

If you your groove on, you can't go wrong with the Ministry of Sound radio

Once I get sick of all that

Once I get sick of all that T&A (wait, what did I just say?) I head for something like this:

  I hate hard house. It

I hate hard house. It drives me up the wall.

Robert: That mash up you posted is hilarious. I love the running man part. I saw that video ages ago and my friend thought they were being serious. I was like, "Uh no dude. Sarcasm. The running man isn't coming back."

Jazz: If you liked that progressive house, you can download these two mixes for free. In my opinion, they are two of the best progressive CDs ever made.

Kevin Shiu - Kiss 100
I don't like his later stuff but this CD is brilliant. It was live on Kiss FM. Go here:

Brent Carmichael - Death
Brent is a pacific west coast legend and was a good friend. He played every style imaginable but upon finding out he had terminal cancer, left this CD for all of his friends and fans. It is an interesting CD because he was a DJ with almost 30 years of experience and chose these tracks for his legacy. It is beautifully mixed.
