Schools to avoid
Simply put, there are good schools and bad schools.
Anyone who has had bad experiences with schools in Tainan, please share with everyone here, so we can make the right decision when looking for employment.
PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC AND QUIT ALL THIS NONSENSE CHATTING!

Derni ( Gym Baby ) school in
Derni ( Gym Baby ) school in An-Ping. The owner ( female not the male ) will lie right to your face about every issue possible just to save a dollar!
IF you sign here or work there now, be cafeful! I have heard the same thing from several other people who worked there after me.

This is Albert at E-Times.
This is Albert at E-Times. I just want to express clearly what I need for teachers. I woldn't like to make teachers think I am a liar, or bad in screwing labour. To maintain a school, all the participants in the school have the responsibility. Maybe some do most in teaching and others do most in administration, but no matter what it is, we are all in the same boat. To maintain school unity, none can be different from the others.
To Bugsy, some teacher may
To Bugsy, some teacher may separate because of different opinions. But, honestly, we ask teachers for classroom cleaning maintenance is started from this March, 2009, and this has been negotiated among every staff (including teachers) in the school. Our purpose, just to keep the classroom clean. Maybe the teacher can ask students cleaning their desk, picking up litters, and arrange desks & chairs in order after class, and every 3 months we teachers will do a deeper cleaning like cleaning the hanging fan or air conditioner. That's it. I am not so bad as what you think.
All that sounds cool, and
All that sounds cool, and above board, that still doesn't explain why my local friends have the same opinion about the way you ACTUALLY MANAGE things/people. That's why I earlier said, there was some truth to what was posted earlier, by another blogger. The strange part is, I had dinner with my Taiwanese friends, that very day, and she confirmed, what the foreign teacher had posted here that VERY day.
Albert, I think NOTHING,
Albert, I think NOTHING, because I don't work for you. So please leave me out of this. Rest assured, I don't intend to either. :)
Cleaning fans and
Cleaning fans and air-conditioners, every 3 months? best of luck........heh

Cos I am not famliar with the new format of the website (message replies etc), and how it's organised. :)
Not familiar with typing and
Not familiar with typing and hitting post comment? You post 20 times a day! I don't think there could be an easier format.
The comment you are making is to someone elses comment that appears right above what you are typing.
Then....when you are completely done.......hit submit.
If you think of something else...you can "edit"....this makes things a lot easier for everyone so we don't have to read your 35 posts in a row.

Hi Adam, you get all these posts in your mailbox?
Why would you?
;)
Bugsy you can't stomp around
Bugsy you can't stomp around blabbing and then be 'left out of it'. And you quite clearly DO think something.
Not bothered to share, since
Not bothered to share, since we already have so called "experts" here on Taiwan, who probably know better. No worries Captain! Pointless to boil my blood over a bunch of key strokes! heh Especially when it would mean "no retainer fee" anyways. You have a great one Captain, I am off to life about the planet! :)
The very people complaining
The very people complaining about me posting a million messages, are sitting around and typing a million themselves...very interesting indeed! :) Talk about- my sh## don't stink. :)
Just remember guys.
Just remember guys. It's all about money. If you can't keep the students you have or bring in new prospective students then you're not an asset to the business.
Cleaning is just a small part of the job. If you can't sacrifice a hour or two to clean the air conditioner I would think twice about keeping you.
Like you guys said, there is a huge surplus of foreigners here in Tainan right now. So you can be easily replaced.
If you like your working conditions and your boss it's best to be cooperative and try and help every now and then.
To show up 15 minutes early is quite reasonable unless you're just one of those foreigners who came here looking for a free ride because life back home sucks because you're just a lazy SOB.
McLovin, the market is
McLovin, the market is flooded with teachers right now. Plus, there are some really good existing ones, out there looking for jobs. I would bow down, and clean the damn thing, if thats what it takes to keep my job, in case my teaching skills don't!!! When are we going fishing guy?
I'm really a hardcore
I'm really a hardcore fishing guy but haven't had time to even look for some real quality salt water gear. I'm looking forward to getting some fishing in this summer if I don't have plans to head back home for the summer.
I find the quality of foreginers here to be so poor that many schools are just happy that the foreigner even shows up at all. That's why many schools offer an attendance bonus because foreigners are unreliable and unless they offer a bonus it's hard to run a cram school if teachers don't even show up..
Well, all I can say is what comes around goes around.
Many of my clients are the kids of doctors or professors who are willing to pay top dollar for quality instruction. It's more work but you earn a solid reputation for doing an excellent job and you're never short of work 12 months of the year..
Nicely put, now if only some
Nicely put, now if only some of these idiots out there understood, what the cram schools REALLY think of them............
GENG HSIN WINS I just want
GENG HSIN WINS
I just want to say that I LOVE this discussion, it was the first real laugh I've had all week (It's been a pretty crappy week).
Let me put in my two cents worth, I've only worked for a few cram schools and I've been pretty fortunate, I've really had good experiences for the most part, great bosses, fair treatment, good working conditions, well-behaved students, etc. However, when I first came to Taiwan a friend thought they would do me a favor and set me up with GENG-HSIN Language School, ranting & raving about how good it was. I've heard SO many good thing about that school and people are always surprised to hear about my experience but it is the ONE PLACE in Tainan I would NEVER go back to! That boss was incredibly mean to me, I mean basic human respect was nil! I've never been shouted at so much in my life. Within a week, the woman said she didn't want to hire me and I was SO RELIEVED. I consider myself a very responsible, caring person, as well as a qualified teacher and I did nothing to deserve her senseless ranting and treating me as if I was dirt between her toes!
Let this be a warning to all you newcomers!
I find it hilaroius that
I find it hilaroius that foreingers here always get called lazy and losers from back home and we can't get a job or any girls back home. How sad does that make Taiwan that us losers can come here get a high paying job higher than the average in Taiwan and take all their women. It must put Taiwan and the Taiwanese pretty low on the food chain. You Taiwanese should be happy that we are nice enough to come here and teach your children English and put up with your brutal working environment you have here. Like your run down apartments you call a school. Yes there are some good schools here but I would say at a ratio of 1 good school with a nice boss to every 10.
Thanks for the red flag on
Thanks for the red flag on the school. Good to know sobykay.
The average Tawianese
The average Tawianese doesn't know better, DOG. Once you start talking to doctors and university professors you will find that there is only rich and not rich in Taiwan.
It's nothing to brag about dating a Taiwanese because most aren't that well educated anyway.
When you actually start dating women with real careers then you know you've set yourself apart from the rest. Women with professional careers rarely date foreigners since most foreigners have no real future.
What you're talking about are the girls who hang out at bars or work at cram schools or are just living off their daddy's money.
You may also think the money may be better than average but working at a cram school is nothing to brag about. When's the last time you saw a professional career woman dating a foreigner who worked at a cram school?
As for schools, working at cram schools is OK for those who are just looking to make a little cash but I don't think teaching at cram schools is something I'd plan on doing long term. Some are great and like the YMCA they provide you with the necessary experience to go work at better schools. Teachers there are pretty nice and they treat the foreigners rather well. Money wise is not that great but no one plans to stay and the Y forever.
McLovin, I couldn't have
McLovin,
I couldn't have said it better! You just hit a home run! :)
Yes absolutely right on,
Yes absolutely right on, ...
How about back home, what were their life's like then or what do you think it was and who would the date, if thy date anyone at all.
In my observation people date here sometimes out of any social context , it does have something interesting about it and admirable too, very spiritual I like to say, but unfortunately is that not a concise decision, rather totally unintentional side effect, which counts likewise for the Taiwanese partner too.
Not every one is like me, went and checked out the family first, so to speak, before I went any further, that counts for my wife strange enough too. You do marry the family too, not only the lovely Lady or Gentleman.
However I always thought people from north america would get much better along with people here, since we European are so over the top sophisticated, with all our cultural etc. and less simple minded.
Perhaps I have a wrong understanding about the people from the new world. My bad ;)
wow , from schools to
wow , from schools to avoid to, dating ...
shouldn't it have rather said GIRLS TO AVOID,...

heheheh.
Hi Guys I'm not trying to
Hi Guys
I'm not trying to give all of you a hard time. I'm just laying out the facts on the table. I'm glad that there are people that really do see Taiwan the way I do.
I'm not trying to put down Taiwanese women either. It's just that the like any society the social stratification dictates what class of people should be dating what class of people.
People with similiar levels of education tend to gravitate to one another. Foreigners, with the level of income they earn will still tend to gravitate to Taiwanese girls whose education and career aspirations are the same as theirs. Rarely does one see the reverse or highly educated women (or men) gravitating towards people outside their social levels.
As statistics has shown, couples gravitate toward others when they share the same interests. That's why the marraiges that tend to survive the longest are the marraiges in which the couple share a high number of common interests.
Contrary to this point, there is a tremendous wealth that is passed down along the Taiwanese family line through family busniesses. Even though the Taiwanese female may be wealthy, one's education level will still dictate where she will end up. The only other exception to this is that I see many doctors and dentists marrying young wives or their assistants but I think this is more like eye candy to impress friends and family.
Mind you, if I were a young Taiwanese female, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to marry a doctor or dentist.
Just a word of advice, a pretty girl is like a new car. It's nice for the first few months but after that it's just the same as any car you see on the street. However, a car that you have fixed and maintained over years has more intrinsic value to you because you understand the good and bad aspects about that car (and you are willing to maintain that car rather than trading it in). As a result, the car has become a part of your self over the years as you can identify the car as being a part of you (in a weird sort of way).
Marraige is very very similiar. (It's a somewhat strange analogy but it really works......)
OK...no more about womennn....shall we get back on track (or my wife will kick me in the gonads again) ???????
This discussion is suppose to be about SCHOOLS TO AVOID..... NOT DATING & THE SOCIAL STRATIFICATION OF TAIWANESE & THE FOREIGNER
:)
:)
Wow, I just read most of
Wow, I just read most of this stuff. New to Tainan and basically new to Taiwan. Came to study Chinese here work while I was doing it. Definitely didn't want to go to China to study and work. I am from America and was unaware that I was a loser and all the other things being said about foreigners. My experience thus far has been that Taiwanese people are really nice. Are they just being nice to me and secretly hating me behind my back?
Taiwanese generally are nice
Taiwanese generally are nice people, honestly. There are some snobby elitists, but those are few.
Actually the HATERS are
Actually the HATERS are self-loathing foreigners who are looking in the mirror when they write. They are speaking for themselves only and about themselves only. If you are American you could not possibly have landed in a better more Amero-centic land on this globe!
The hate spewers are the sort who having been found unacceptable to the Bushi Bans are taking out their frustrations on their fellow travelers who are doing well.
If you wish a happy life here; and if you wish not to see things through distorted eyes, you must ignore the trolls. They live to wind you up and send you out to do their work for them. They will then just sit back and watch as you make an ass of yourself by getting angry and spewing hate all over the board. They love the fireworks and the more meaningless things they can wind up about the better feel about themselves.
The best advice that I can offer you is never to respond to them, read them as little as possible, and get on about the business of enjoying the Many Great Taiwanese who love you just for being One Great American!
PS: those of you who intend to attack my use of English, be advised that I have set traps for you there, and be adviced that I won’t never read you respond, an I won’t get a idea a what you said an I won’t never give a rat’s shit bout what you thunkin’
Welcome aboard the Good-Ship-Taiwan, American
All I wanted was a few
All I wanted was a few schools to avoid.......
The first reply is
The first reply is completely correct. That place is a revolving door, even with the Taiwanese staff.
anger management 101?
anger management 101?
WOW! This thread has a fair
WOW! This thread has a fair few negative generalisations about westerners being crap employees, Taiwanese women being poorly educated, buxiban directors being heartless slave drivers etc. Taiwan is a wonderful place to work. The ratio of people with a degree or masters degree seems considerably higher than back home in England. Buxiban directors for whom I've worked seem generous and considerate. People here in general seem extraordinarily friendly and go out of their way to befriend/ talk to me.
I would also consider teachers within my circle of friends from UK, Canada and USA to be competent in their profession and good people. There is no doubting that a western guy will be more popular to the opposite sex over here (if he is half decent looking), but to suggest that is why people come here is ridiculous.
I rarely post, but I felt it necessary to state that not everyone finds working and living here such a pain in the ass. Perhaps the people who are bitching about it should piss off back home haha. I mean, nobody is making you stay here right?
