Question about moving household goods Kaohsuing-Tainan area

I just moved to Taiwan a week and a half ago, and shipped 6 large (48-gallon) containers of books and household good by ship to Kaohsuing. Now I need to figure out how to get them from there to here (Science Park near Tainan). Ideally, I'd like a truck, driver, and a 2nd strong person for the better part of a day. The ship should arrive August 14th, but I haven't been able to confirm it.
Any ideas? Failing the local, word-of-mouth method, I'll contact the shipper in the U.S. for his Kaohsuing leads.
Also, any sage advice about getting said goods through customs would be great. I shipped a boatload (well, nearly) of books with the thought that they'd be making a one-way trip, so they'll likely end up as a donation to the school. Should I have the school write a note to customs, or would it matter?

Thanks for the site, by the way--I've learned lots!

I hired a blue truck to move

I hired a blue truck to move from Taoyuan to Tainan several years ago for NT 10,000.  They moved everything.  I think you could hire one truck and two guys to do all of the work.

You can check these guys, although I am not sure if they are still around or if they are any good:

Before you can get the stuff

Before you can get the stuff or put it onto a truck, you'll have to get it through customs.

That's done by hiring a customs broker, who will take care of all paper work and hire the truck, driver and helper.

You may not even have to go to Kaohsiung to get the stuff (though you may have to go to sign papers with and pay the customs broker).

Over the last 30 years (25 in Kaohsiung and about 5 now in Tainan) I've brought in about 5 shipments through customs brokers in Kaohsiung.

Perhaps your American shipper can identify one for you, or you can search one out yourself.

Use the Google Translator, translate "customs broker" from English to Chinese, then use those characters to ask people for references or to look in the Kaohsiung Yellow Pages for you.

Best of luck,

Update on the shipment, in

Update on the shipment, in case this is relevant for anyone else on down the line:

David, I followed your advice and contacted my US shipping firm--they had a local contact. I hired the customs broker in Kaohsuing through the help of a bilingual friend, and they charged me 12,000 NT to pay all the duties/customs fees and delivery to my door here at Nan Ke. If I remember right, the delivery part of the total was a little over 3,000NT. I didn't have to go to Kaohsuing; there was something I signed that I assume was like a power of attorney. I paid through a remittance I made at the post office (which cost $30NT and was very easy.) The shipment arrived Kaohsuing on a Sunday, and I had it by Thursday noon, so I was pretty pleased with the whole thing. Woo hoo! FYI, the 800 lb-2 pallet shipment cost $660 US to ship from San Antonio, TX to Kaohsuing.
